One-on-One Tutoring
You’re in the right place if you want your teen to step into their potential. To do things differently than they have been.
Confidence is what you want, cramming is not.
The good news is, your teen can feel confident going into their next test (and ace it), without the last minute cramming and overwhelm, using science-backed strategies for study success.
Ace the tests, just like Sadie did.

If you've been watching your teen...

Stress and scramble to prepare for every test
Put in effort that isn’t matching their result
Feel like they’re not smart enough
Get overwhelmed with the pace of their course
Give up their hobbies to have enough time for school
Burn out from spending hours trying to keep up with it all
Keep on top of your teen’s schedule for them
Get them organized with binders and an agenda
Watch youtube to help when they’re stuck on homework
Help them study for tests
Talk with their teachers
Encourage your teen to keep trying

Maybe you've already tried to...
…. But now you’ve come to realize it isn’t working and it isn’t sustainable to continue this way.
I know you want your child to feel confident and get good grades.
Imagine how it would feel for your teen to:
Feel capable, smart and successful
Keep on top of their academics
Have time for what they love doing outside of school
Be proud of themselves and the grades they achieve
Stand out as a go-to person for peers to get help from
Not only that, but also...
The positive ripple effect for your teen to:
Believe in themself
Confidently apply for top University programs
Know they’re capable of what they set their mind to
Open doors to future opportunities
Overcome challenges with resilience
Fully step into their potential!
I'm here to tell you it's possible.
But your teen has to COMMIT to making a change first. To want to try things differently and be open to getting support.
To take action, even when afraid to fail. To be supported, when making mistakes and thriving. Your teen needs to know we’ll be there to encourage them to learn from any mistakes, rather than expect perfection right away.
If your teen doesn’t believe they can improve or isn’t open to tutoring, they’ll cut corners. As a result, their current overwhelm and stress will get worse. From my experience tutoring students for 15+ years, I know if a student is tapped out from the start, it means they’ll do the bare minimum, try to coast along and just “tick the boxes”. They won’t focus during tutoring sessions and will reluctantly put in effort. They’ll expect everything to be done for them, which isn’t how learning works, then they'll quickly fall behind again as their class content builds.
Without being on board with tutoring from the get-go, your teen will still feel stuck and frustrated. They might even start doubting whether they’re good enough to be in certain classes, drop into lower level courses and limit their options for future university programs and career paths. But, if your teen is willing to be on the same team as their tutor and work together, it will completely flip the script. These tutoring sessions are for teens committed to their improvement. I encourage starting a conversation with your teen first though, to see where they're at, before assuming how they feel. They might be open to it already.
This is why it’s so important for us to have an initial Zoom call before starting, to determine if your teen is ready for tutoring.

Trying something new and unknown usually brings up fear and doubt.
Just like your teen might feel when writing a test. “What if trying this doesn’t work? What if I make a mistake? I don’t even know where to start.”
My question to you is, if you knew when your teen was feeling this way… what would you say to them? Would you encourage them to try their best? Or to avoid questions they haven’t seen before? Should they act from a place of learning? Or from a place of fear?
Relating this back to yourself, what’s your approach in finding them a tutor? Do you want to learn about the options available to your teen? Or just stick with what you’re most familiar with?

Don’t wait until the next time your teen is cramming before a test.
Or disappointed with their grade.
The best time to reach out is now.
You’ve already taken action by being here, looking for support.
Booking in a call is the next step.
Let’s keep the ball rolling.
Life is busy and there’s never a perfect time.
Like jumping in the cold lake in May, the longer you wait, the harder it will be.
You’re here now. It’s the best time to set-up a call.

Here’s what a past student said about what they would do if they were just starting the year:

It's hard to see the long-term result of not changing the current situation.

That’s why advice in hindsight from a past student is important to listen to. Waiting to schedule a call will only cost your teen more time and frustration, kicking the can down the road.
The common factor amongst the top students I’ve worked with, is they make the time and commitment to succeed. Fear and excuses don’t stop them from trying. Whether it's competitive athletes, students building their resume for med school or those working multiple part-time jobs to save for University… everyone’s busy with their own life. Instead of using it as an excuse for being too busy for a tutor, they recognize it’s the reason why they want a tutor. To succeed academically, while keeping up with what they love doing outside of school.
The S.T.E.P.H. system
Stable = accountability for taking action towards goals when life is busy and when it’s not
Transform = individualizing learning for the class content to make sense
Engrain = encouraging creativity and curiosity to make learning meaningful and memorable
Prioritize = developing time management and reflective skills while closing knowledge gaps
Hero = building resilience to overcome challenges and confidence to help peers with concepts

Holding your teen accountable to strategic action is what we’ll do using the S.T.E.P.H. system
Together, we’ll do this as a team so they can level up their grades and boost their confidence.
